How I help
Self-esteem & identity
If you are hard on yourself, feel you are never good enough, or hurt yourself to cope, therapy can help you understand why and find kinder ways to live with difficult feelings.

You might notice
- A harsh inner critic
- Feeling not good enough
- Putting everyone else first
- Comparing yourself to others
- Hurting yourself to cope with feelings
- Finding it hard to say no
How therapy can help
Person-centred therapy is built on acceptance. Being met with warmth and without judgement can help you begin to see yourself differently.
If you self-harm, we can talk about it openly and safely, and look at what it helps you cope with, without pressure to stop before you feel ready.
Questions
Common questions
What happens in the first session?
We talk about what brings you here, your background and what you would like to change. I explain how confidentiality works, and together we agree on goals and how often to meet.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a short number of sessions for one issue; others prefer longer-term work. We review progress together regularly.
What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a well-researched therapy that helps the brain process traumatic or distressing memories so they feel less overwhelming. It is recommended in NICE guidelines for PTSD.
