How I help

Trauma & PTSD

After a frightening or overwhelming experience, the mind can stay on high alert. EMDR and person-centred therapy can help you process what happened, safely and at your own pace.

You might notice

  • Flashbacks or intrusive memories
  • Nightmares or disturbed sleep
  • Feeling jumpy, numb or detached
  • Avoiding reminders of what happened
  • Feeling unsafe, even when you are
  • Strong reactions you can’t explain

How therapy can help

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy recommended in NICE guidelines for PTSD. It helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less vivid and overwhelming.

We always start by building safety and trust. You stay in control throughout, and we only move on when you feel ready.

Questions

Common questions

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brings you here, your background and what you would like to change. I explain how confidentiality works, and together we agree on goals and how often to meet.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a short number of sessions for one issue; others prefer longer-term work. We review progress together regularly.

What is EMDR?
